This Monday, The Blogery is proud to introduce you to ::Matthew Mills::
Matthew Mills is an artist from Lowell, MA. Mills started taking his writing seriously when he was 16 years old. It started with poems, then he went on to start penning down rhymes that became songs. Mills picked up his first Hip Hop album, “Illmatic” when he was 11 years old. ” I’llnever forget it, I had this yellow Sony cassette player, the shockproof joint, and I played Illmatic like 1,000 times start to finish. I was hooked after that.” Although Mills was born and raised in Lowell, you won’t really see him in the scene out there. ” I love my city don’t get me wrong, but the majority of people out here just ain’t real.” Mills has turned his focus internationally and has been building his brand in different countries. “Shout out my Canada team, Grand Theory Canada and my UK connects, NJA Media”. Since Mills has switched his focus, he has been gaining buzz in countries around the world. Can y’all say WORLD TOUR…
Mills does not consider himself a rapper. “That shit is overrated. It’s way bigger than Hip Hop. Hip hop just gave me a platform to express myself. I paint. I draw. I write poems. I design. I mix with a lot of different things. At the end of the day I’m an artist and my art is my life, whether that be a song, a picture, a jacket design, it all reflects who I am and what I’ve been through.” Mills came from a good home, single mom, 5 kids, rough neighborhood, lost friends, lost family. Same old story. But Mills doesn’t glorify these experiences, he uses them and brings them to life through vibrant art pieces.
Mills started Grand Theory Creative Group in 2013. “Everything changed after that. We had a focus”. We wanted to bring art to the masses and show them that everybody has a story and every story is worth telling. Grand Theory uses art, whether that be in the form of music, paintings, a poem, or whatever form that elicits a feeling in people. Grand Theory is currently working on several festivals, one in particular called Sol Festival coming September 2016 which focuses on the youth in the community and gives them a platform to showcase their talents. There are international tours in the works, an art gallery being developed, and a creative studio that Grand Theory will host events catered to artists, while allowing them to collaborate with each other in one space.
Mills is currently working on his 3rd solo project titled, “HEAVY.” “This project is my best body of work to date. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life, both mentally and spiritually”. Off this new project Mills recently released the highly anticipated video for the single “Far From Home”, which is a story about the ups and the downs of the life of an artist & entrepreneur and has made something out of nothing. Mills let it go on the second verse and said “Born Alone// Die before I leave the throne// In my zone, Grind until my people on// I swear to God both hands on the Bible// “Shit gets deep. The song still gives me chills when I hear it”. “HUGE S/O out NJA Media for working with me out in London and doing an exceptional job on the video. Let me take this time to say Thank You publicly.” I had 3 weeks to lock in a video team, put together a storyline, and lock in locations. I connected with NJA Media, shout them my ideas, and they were ready to work.” The rest was history and we connected out in London and worked all day. Met a bunch of dope people. S/O my dudes from Poland, I see y’all! Always love when I hit the city.
Everything Matt writes is real, no gimmicks or stories to sound cool. “Y’all can keep that cool shit. I’m just trying to spread GOOD music, give people opportunities that they would have never had before and bring art to the world in a major way. There is a lot coming up, keep your eyes peeled and your ears open. “We UP next. Now I just gotta land that J. Cole and Nas feature and life will be complete! #HVYEP #GTCG”
With Matthew Mills’ lyrical sounds and flow, I have no doubt that he will land that feature with J.Cole and Nas in the very near future. Watch Matt’s latest release now!
