Ahhhhh, 2016. Another year is upon us people and you know what that means. New year, new me… new diets… fresh gym memberships…new promises made…a list of things being left behind in the old year…I think you catch my drift. It’s funny how the start of a new year prompts us to be these brand new people. As if we needed a shiny crystal ball to drop in Times Square, a bottle of champagne, and Ryan Seacrest counting down the seconds until January 1st, to tell us that we need to reset our lives. That after a whole 365 days of living life as we were, it wasn’t good enough and NOW is the time to start doing better.
So now it’s the first week of the new year. Everyone is so excited and has a renewed sense of self. Ready and anxious to take on a new chapter in their book of life. Why is that? Why were we not super duper excited and inspired December 30, 2015. Or September 21, 2015, hell…June 12, 2015. What’s worse? Why do we lose all of our spunk and ambition for a newer and better life just months, or even weeks after the new year has begun?
New Year:
End of January-Beginning of February:
Do you see how “OVER IT” she is?! Completely throwing her entire life on that couch. Yet, this is what so many people look like soon after that ball drops and the champagne fizzles.
I personally never understood the purpose of New Year’s Resolutions. I think they are the dumbest things on the planet. Something people do to make themselves feel better, only to beat themselves up when they don’t accomplish those new year goals. Don’t get me wrong, I think setting goals in life is crucial for the growth and development of mankind…but don’t wait until one day of the year to do so. Set goals and set them often.
I think part of the problem, if not most of the problem, is we get so caught up in the day to day that we forget to set time for ourselves to achieve whatever it is that we want to do. If your “New Year’s Goal” was to lose weight, just focus on losing weight all year round. Why are you waiting until January 1st?! If your “New Year’s Goal” was to eat healthier, why wait…just do it year round! If your “New Year’s Goal” was to write that book you’ve been dreaming about, just freaking do it already!
Trust me, I am not here to yell at you (although it seems like Shia may be.) I am also speaking to myself. It’s crazy when I look back on how quickly time has flown and will continue to fly by. There are so many dreams and goals that I have had in my own mind for years and years. Some of them I have achieved and others I have not (yet). But what is holding you and I back? Lets make this year and every day in it count.
I have come up with some tips and tricks on how to stay motivated for myself, but thought I would share them with you all as well and hope you will love and implement them. 🙂
Tip One: When you first wake up, before even getting out of bed… think of how you want your day to go and then repeat everything out loud. By doing this you are putting good vibes out into the universe before you even leave your house. *Disclaimer: THIS WILL NOT BE EASY FOR NON-MORNING PEOPLE. This will take some practice*
Tip Two: Put sticky notes around your house, car, office…somewhere that you will see often, reminding you of your goals for that day or week or even for the month. Once you have achieved the goal, take it and put it in a mason jar. At the end of the year you can look back and see all of the amazing things you accomplished. Talk about feeling good!
Tip Three: Go to the gym. This hurt me to even type, but honestly, it’s so important to take care of this one and only temple we have. The more we make it a habit, the better for us. No more stopping and picking back up months later…just consistency. Consistency is so key.
Tip Four: Prep lunches for work at home the night before. This will help with the whole treating your temple right thing AND keeping you on good terms with your good ol’ friend, Budget.
Tip Five: Create and STAY within your budget…Always. Start saving money! Stop calling it your “Rainy Day Fund”, that has such a negative connotation. Call it your prosperity account. My dad told me about this. Take at least 10% of each check and stash it in your Prosperity Account and watch how much it will grow in just one year!
Tip Six: Read (or for those of you who just can’t stomach the idea of reading, listen) to an uplifting, inspiring, motivating book. This is a great way to stay inspired all year long, even when you’re not feeling very inspire-y. I would highly suggest reading “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert. One of, if not the most inspiring books I have ever read.
Tip Seven: This is going to sound beyond words cheesy, but seriously… always believe in yourself. Don’t let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game *A Cinderella Story*.
Only you are responsible for the writings that go in your book. Make it the most awesome book ever, because why not? You only have one book to write in this thing called life.
There you have it guys. I love you all and hope you have a happy, healthy, prosperous year…not new year, but year. Continue to make this and all others ahead, great. Until next post…
