Who doesn’t love a beautiful face?! A face with healthy, supple, glowing (not greasy) skin. It’s a wonderful thing that some people are blessed to have naturally, while others have to work a bit harder to attain. There are many, many factors that play a role in poor skin and certain skin conditions. The foods, drinks, skin care products (or lack there of), make up, etc. all contribute to healthy or poor skin.
I came across a “No-Carb Bread” recipe created by Dr. John Layke, certified cosmetic surgeon with The Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group. Believe it or not, bread is a big contributing factor to why our skin may not be looking its very best.
Yeah, see how cute and cuddly that little loaf of bread looks…not so much! Bread is tough for anybody *especially me*, who is trying to keep healthy because all of those extra carbs really do add up. Even whole grain store bought breads often times contain corn syrup. Corn syrup is an absolute disaster for your health. It creates age accelerating free radicals, spiking blood sugar, and crashing energy levels.
No bueno! It’s also worth noting that the flour used in breads turns into sugar in your body. The sugar actually binds with skin cells and initiates a rapid aging process known as “glycation.” This process causes wrinkles, sagging, dullness and loss of moisture.
I know, major bummer to all my bread lovers out there *trust me, I feel your pain*. However, Dr. John Layke and his wife have a wonderful substitute for bread that you and your face will love! So shake off your aprons darlings and get ready to make this super simple NO-Carb Bread…
::No-Carb Bread Recipe::
- Whisk 1 egg in a small bowl. A bowl about 4 inches in diameter at the bottom will be ideal for this recipe.
- Add in 2 tsp of olive oil, plus a dash of salt and a dash of garlic powder (optional)
- Add 4 Tbsp ground flaxseed meal and mix until well combined
- Microwave for approximately 60 seconds. For lower wattage microwaves, add 10-20 seconds
- Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave and use a butter knife to loosen the “bread”. Flip the bowl upside down onto a plate to transfer the bread
- Allow to cool for 2-3 minutes before cutting through the “bread”
- Enjoy this as plain bread or use as buns for your favorite sandwich!
