This week The Blogery presents…*drum roll please* the magnificent, the wonderful, the talented ::Steve Carmona::. Steve is a Brooklyn based filmmaker/ Director/ DP, who owns a boutique production house, And/With Creative.
And/With Creative is a company that was started through the collaboration of Steve Carmona and Andrew Romulo. They crossed paths while freelancing for a Brooklyn company that specialized in wedding videography in 2012. And/With Creative began with the sole idea of introducing corporations to a modern day audience. The goal of our team is to turn everyday occurrences into incredible, inspiring and entertaining stories. By collaborating with clients from pre-production to the final product, And/With Creative wants your idea to become a reality for all to see.
When I got with Steve and asked him to shed some light on his business currently and the direction he plans on going, this is what he had to say…
Our work has a huge amount of range because like others trying to do art in the city, you have to pay rent. We do a lot of corporate production and have met some of the biggest celebrities and richest people in the world. We’re very lucky to be working in a place with so much talent. The company is 2 years old and based out of Greenpoint in Brooklyn. The good old G train. It’s co owned by my partner Andrew Romulo. We’ve done work for non profits, mom and pop shops and huge corporations.
*The Team^^^^
I’m personally so grateful to work for myself and have a wonderful wife who inspires and supports what I do. It’s amazing how much she’s able to speak into the shit we put out. With that said, the work at many times is still unsatisfying.
*Incredibly wonderful and amazing backbone (wifey) ^^^
I’m always at odds with my shit. At many times it still feels like a desk job. I’ve started and stopped ‘my dream’ which is to begin working towards a feature due to my own insecurities and fears of failure. All artists deal with this. It’s that feeling that one day, everyone will finally find out you’re a fraud! This is the biggest challenge with doing my own work vs hired work.
I have strong convictions in a lot of things and beliefs and I try to keep it that way. With that I always think, if the whole world stopped to hear what I had to say, what would I say? What would be my message? What is that first feature? Is it something strong that screams my convictions or is it something bad ass with blood, guts and cool characters?
A friend of mine put it like this, and I’m super paraphrasing: You don’t want to spend your whole life trying to build this perfect golden calf of art to worship yourself with. People put so much pressure on their work. That this THING will define their entire life and ability to say something to the world. It’s fuckin’ awful in reality.
I just wanna be true to me. Perfectionism isn’t a burden I want to carry. I’ll do my best and hopefully that either speaks to someone or entertains or both. Or none. Or hate me. I can’t do what I can’t do. And in no way am I being easy on myself either. I’m gonna put my stuff out there without wanting to kill myself that’s all.
With that said, the studio is working on their first self produced piece of work. This will be the first narrative piece we’ve done within our own control. There isn’t a solid title but it’s a short film roughly called, “Revenge Girl.” This will be written by myself and co directed by me and a great guy named Ranjan Das. The script is almost done and we’ll be shooting in the fall. Hopefully this will speak to some and entertain others.
Wish us luck!!

Truly, truly an amazing talent. I am also very proud and blessed to say that Steve is a good friend of mine for the last few years. He is just as amazing as his work, maybe a little better 😉 . I have also had the great honor of working with him and his team on a short film project last year. I swear to you one thing, in the not too distant future Steve Carmona will be just as big of a name as Scorsese and Spielberg. Look below for some cool screen shots of work Steve has done. Also, be sure to check Steve and the gang out on their official website and social media.
