Yes, you read the title correctly. Today’s post is all about debunking the myth that somehow being single is not cool or lonely. That somehow not having a significant other is this horrible thing and you should do everything in your power to change.
Personally, I love being alone. I love me. I love me time. I enjoy doing a shit ton of things, yes…all by myself. Don’t get me wrong. I imagine being in love with someone is this amazing thing, that’s why everyone wants it. However, there is nothing wrong with the single journey until you get to that place of having a significant other.

1. Traveling Alone
Last month, I took a me-cation to the Cayman Islands. This was my first time taking a trip alone and let me tell you, it will NOT be my last. There were so many amazing things about taking this trip sans a boyfriend or girl friends. I did what I wanted, when I wanted. I didn’t have to ask for anyones opinion, didn’t run on anyone else’s schedule, and didn’t have to hear anyone snore at night! I had a blast meeting all different people and even made new friends. I enjoyed activities with groups of people; something I would have never done if I was with another person. The list goes on, but seriously…do you see how happy I was ….ALONE 😉
2. Spending Your Own Money
There is immense freedom in being able to do whatever I want with the money that I make. Financial independence is super duper sexy. Yes, I just said super duper. I can invest and save the way I want. While still spoiling myself from time to time. A little shopping spree never hurt no body 😉
3. Finding Yourself and Your Interests
Being single is the perfect time to figure out what you love to do. What hobbies you’re into. What gives you great joy. Go write that amazing book you have been thinking about since last year. Sign up for that pottery class. Join in on that amazing yoga class you’ve heard all about. The world is yours! You can do whateva, wheneva!
4. You Get to Sleep Alone
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE my sleep. The thought of sharing a bed, for me personally, is not a welcoming one. I like the idea of my own space. I like the idea of no snoring. I like the idea of no one on the other side being a total bed worm. So yes, I will soak this one up for as long as I can.
5. Learning to Love Yourself
This is the sexiest thing about being single. Learning to love yourself and not rely on the love of someone else. While, someone else loving you is a wonderful thing, it shouldn’t be your main source of love. Being single is the perfect time to love on yourself. Love yourself, imperfections and all. When you truly love yourself, you will be a much better partner for someone else.
There are many more than just five reasons why being single is sexy, but those are some key points. I have nothing against being in relationships, as one day that is what I look for, for myself. In the meantime, I am going to have as much fun by myself and hope all my other single guys and gals will do the same thing. Singles, UNITE!
